New plant Saturday: 2/7/15

New plant Saturday is here, garden geeks!

New this week: an order full of really cool, unusual grasses, ferns, abutilon (Chinese lanterns), Australian natives and ‘ground covers’ like Scleranthus uniflorus, pictured below!

New herbs and winter veggies! We will profile more of these later on, but we always love to get in a fun, fresh crop of edible plants that are very cool – grow your own green juice!

Winter color! New cyclamen, jasmine heart vines, stock, ‘shamrocks’, spiral grass and more!

Heart topiaries – get those Valentine gifts done and taken care of this weekend!

PLUS, we still have a TON of our Annie's Annuals in from last week, sedums and succulents from Native Sons and a whole lot more. Spring like weather has us keeping the nursery nice and full!

Hope you make it in to see us this weekend!

In the garden this weekend...

Took a few quick shots this afternoon of just some of what we've got in the garden this weekend. These mild summer days are just begging us to get planting! A big order of Annie's Annuals came in yesterday too, stop by and check it out - some really cool stuff.... enjoy!

We heart euphorbias!

Sedums! Lots of 'em!

"Regal Lilly" - this one bloomed a little prematurely in the 4" container (!) but soooooo cool - come take one home and be wowed each spring!

We have lots of asclepias varieties in right now - great plant for butterflies!

Gunnera - one of our all time favorites!

Begonia Gene Daniels - we promise it will make you re-think begonias, it totally changed our mind!

Pretty asters!

Dicliptera suberecta  - we LOVE this one, have it growing i our own gardens!

Scleranthus biflorus. Australian Astroturf. You need this. Trust us. It attracts gnomes.

Echiums! Lots of fun varieties of them! Everyone should grow echiums!

Red leaf hibiscus. Really unusual. And awesome. Looooooooooooove.

Lovely rumex!

Spring has arrive at Johnnye Merle's!

Spring is here!

So, yeah, we've been bad bloggers. But we've been BUSY! What a crazy winter - one of of the busiest we have EVER had! A huge thanks to all of our awesome fellow garden nerds for keeping us on our toes!

Our gardens have been blooming for weeks now, but I finally got a chance to snap some photos of what is going on in our little spot at the moment.

Lots and lots of great plant treasures for you to take home!

osteospermum natchez copper - awesome color!

Our first sunflower blooming of the season! These guys come back year after year in our beds all on their own...

Drosanthemum speciosum 'Pele' - just in our beds, unfortunately. None in stock right now, but we'll let you know when we do!

A nice shout out...

Johnnye Merle's got a nice little blurb in this months edition of Orange Coast Magazine. We were listed along with eight great other Orange County nurseries as a resource for drought tolerant and native plants - something we are very proud of! Having designed gardens in LA and OC for over ten years now, I take great pride in our unusual selection of plants that look great AND are eco-friendly!

As always, we have a great selection of plants in stock right now, and we are even getting an early start on prepping our gardens for fall plantings - be sure to stop in and see us soon!

Thanks to our friends at Orange Coast for the mention - you can check it out here.
